The Depraved Appetite of Tarrare the Freak by Tobi and Tom Poster – 2017

Touring Violinist needed…

From sideshow freak to Revolutionary spy: A macabre musical tale of one man’s quest to be human, in a world that sees him as a monster…. The on-stage performers comprise 2 singers, 2 puppeteers and 2 instrumentalists (pianist and violinist). All six performers are very involved throughout the show, with both instrumentalists requiring musical flexibility and considerable virtuosity.

Yes please! 😊

The band comprises two musicians, pianist An-Ting Chang and violin Katy Rowe, who perform with conviction the different pastiche styles composer Tom Poster has wittily imagined. The fiddle theme for Tarrare’s lover needed no words to express a love that made the ugly beautiful. The critics circle

As you can imagine, as soon as I read this advert I knew I wanted to be that violinist!!
It was a nerve-wracking audition process as once shortlisted I had to send in a recording of extracts from the show. 5th December Tobi got in contact and offered me the role; we would start rehearsals in January = one happy KT!

“The history of this monster is as curious as his habits disgusting….”

Wattle & Daub Figure Theatre trace the story of Tarrare – an outcast with a strange condition: an insatiable appetite which included live cats, amputated limbs and the occasional toddler. The show features over twenty puppets, Tobi Poster providing the brilliant script (created in collaboration with Hattie Naylor) and Tom Poster composed the thrilling original score.

“Overflowing with exquisite puppetry and music, bursting with brilliant performances, and rich in emotion and surprisingly powerful characterisation, this creepy, heartbreaking chamber opera is a stunning feast for the eyes and ears”A Younger Theatre
